2 Lewmar bottom action single speed winches with handles. Working when removed from the boat. Since stripped cleaned and lubricated.
I believe these were original on my boat in 1969.
£50 the pair + £10 postage or collect Gosport.
The picture shows my transducer housing when the boat was lifted yesterday. It certainly explains why the paddle wheel wasn't going round. I don't feel the need to antifoul the actual transducer because I pull it out frequently and stuff dies off. But what can I put on the housing to prevent...
Somebody painted my engine (Beta BZ482) and painted over the geabox breather. I've cleaned it up but it's in poor condition so I bought a replacement - which doesn't fit. Can anybody tell me what the thread is ( I make it M10x1.0, which would be unusual but not imoossible) - I can't lay hands on...
My baby stay (substitute for forward lowers) is fixed to the coachroof (the almost-vertical forward surface). Looking more closely than heretofore it seems there's an unreasonable amount of flex causing cracking. It is proposed to fix it instead to the deck (with suitable reinforcement). Can...
As the boat and I live near the Solent I have the luxury of not worrying about Ophelia - good luck to those affected.
XC Weather shows much worse (and much closer to me) in the small hours of next Saturday (21st) - F10 gusting F12.
Passageweather.com shows 50Kn going up the Channel at about...
As usual one small job has spawned a couple of larger ones.
The single-lever control is by Vetus; it looks like a Vetus SICO but with a cast handle - I assume that's because it's old - it may be original in which case it's been in the sun rain and salt spray for 48 years.
It now has a number...
... seems to be back.
But the Southampton VTS site says "PLEASE NOTE: "Bramble" tide and weather data is now being supplied from the station on Bramble Pile, however until further notice tide data should be treated with caution (April 2016)." so they may not be entirely out of the woods yet...
Hi,
I'm in Cherbourg with wine, beer, sunshine etc but sometime I'll have to come home. The batteries aren't charging; the belt was showing signs of slipping but now that's tightened up I'm still not seeing a sensible charging voltage. What should I look for? Any recommendations for an...
I found oil in the bilge sump this weekend. There doesn't seem to be any missing from the engine (Beta 14HP), which is running as normal.
A while ago I overdid the stern gland greaser and a little pile of grease oozed out - I know I should have cleared it up at the time but that's in the past...
Wakatere currently has a single maunal bilge pump and I'd like to add electric pump(s). The heads bilge forward and the engine bilge aft (surprise) are separate from the main bilge for small amounts of water. I had thought to have small pumps draining the small areas into the main bilges and...
I'm interested in the above because it's dimensions mean it would fit in the panel I'd like to have a VHF in. It's been available in the 'States for some time, and I saw it on the SH stand at SIBS. Dealers, however, didn't have any.
Anybody have any idea when it will actually be available here?
Well, I've given in and bought self-tailing winches - Lewmar Evo - for Wakatere. The literature talks about their "FastFit studs" but I can't find a source. So off-the-shelf screws it is - but do I use SS (with Duralac?) or do they have to be bronze to match the winch base?
Thanks in advance...
The cormorants are at it again - and if it's not them it's gulls, terns, starlings or WHY. I could spend ages covering the boat in netting every time I leave it, I suppose, but does anyone have other recommendations?
Tried to go sailing yesterday - water in the fuel tank:eek:! I think the filler wasn't tightened up properly and rain got in:o. Actually very pleased it stopped running on the mooring, not trying to get into an unfamiliar port in F6.
Just had a call - she's ready to go:D! stripped, cleaned...
Do you fly the Q flag on arriving in France?
Do you have one (I don't)?
I have no problem going out to buy one if it's necessary, but the money could go on vin rouge instead.
Regards
Charles
No I'm not swearing (well, I have been).
I've got an airlock in the cooling circuit in my Beta BZ482 (14HP) - I'd be glad to have any tips on bleeding it. In particular - is that screw in the middle of the thermostat housing a bleed vent?
TIA
Charles
... but nothing happened (coolant not oil). Then I remembered to take the pressure cap off - still nothing. Poking a cable tie into the drain (which has a little elbow on it, so there isn't a clear run) just got some damp gunk out (the coolant higher up the engine is clear).
Anybody have any...
Please rescue me from my folly and ignorance ...
Well the folly may be inbuilt, but the ignorance might just be moderated by education.
Since my winter in the yard various things about Wakatere are much better - such as no longer having the feeling that the tiller might come off in my hand -...
