XM offshore Jacket

Anyone have experience of the XM offshore jacket, I'm also looking at Jag which has received very good reports on here but from the pic on the website it looks quite short compared to other jackets. Is this the case?
 
Just tried an XM on this afternoon and they are really short...JAG have been well reommended on here and I think I'l plump for one of those. Only other reasonable one I've seen are Gull (not Gill), used loads of Gull stuff in my widsurfing days and it was good.

I've used an XM offshore jacket & trousers for nearly 2 years and they have performed very well. I've been out in rain, sleet and fog and had waves break over me on the foredeck and they have kept me dry and warm. However they haven't had to stand up to much hard wear and I doubt that the material is tough enough for extended rough use.

Unless something better turns up, I expect to buy a Jag suit when this one demises.

Slight aside but I noticed that Marinestore in the clearance section have got Yellow, Large only XM offshore jackets for £49.99. I don't own an XM so whether they are good/bad I have no view, but price usually pays a part.
 
I am a fat tall git, and the XM stuff fits me really well. covers me bum, good high trousers etc... My wife is not a tall fat git, and hers fits well too. We paid 129.95 for the suits each from Marinestore two years ago, and are highly delighted...
 
Have to agree with many others here. I have had an XM offshore suit for a little over 2 years and have been very pleased with it. No leaks, fits comfortably and even with regular use hasn't started to wear. The point of the jacket not being long enough... well I am 6'3", and both the jacket and trousers are plenty long enough for me... I think that if the jacket is too long then it will restrict your manoeuvrability. Overall, a good product for the money.
 
I seem to have confused a few. What I meant was that the Jag Jacket appears to be quite short from the pic on their WEBSITE
Sorry for the confusion but thanks for the answers. I am aware of the great offer from Marinestore, that's why I was asking the question.
 
I've got the breathable xm, best jacket ever after years of musto & helly-
the chap who organises the boat jumble association for thye south / solent ...if you find the web site his email is on there.... mr chaddock, buys in xm kit for boat jumbles at good prices...also does mail order & sells on ebay...no connection to me, but have bought 8 sets for coded boat ...very good deal
 
Like Jema have the XM breathable version ( Ocean??) cost about £180.00 it`s best I`ve had inc Splashdown Musto etc.
Two years ,a Biscay, Gran Can. and it`s stilll good as new and never leaks. Got it at very good price at Aladins Cave --but don`t know if they still sel them now.

I have a Jag sailing set & its by far and away the best value for money sailing gear
that I have ever used.
I was also a bit sceptical looking at the pic but I went along to the shop in Weymouth a couple of years ago to try one & I bought one straight away, great service from Jag as well. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Wife and I bought XM suit for £140 each from Yachtmail bout three years ago and they have stood up to hard use and foul weather (not mention language at times) including very chilly, bumpy Biscay crossing, and beside inground dirt seem as operationally sound as ever.

Last year Yachtmail were selling off 'last year's yellow' at ridiculous price of £49.99 a suit. Fortunately managed to find one each in our sizes.
Saves us having to drag our foulies over to the states and back each time we use the boat as at that price we can afford to keep a set in each country.

Missus, who had previously been very 'label' concious says she'll never go back to Musto!and she is very fussy about being comfortable, warm and dry and would never consent to 'rough it' for the sake of a couple of hundred quid.

I consider the fact that she has two sets the ultimate recommendation.

I previously had excellent Helly Hansen set which I bought 'shop soiled' for £25 in 1998.
They were great until some helpful person knicked them from a pub in Cowes (can't trust these yachty types). /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I'd have been gutted if I had paid the RRP of just over £300!!!
 
Ive just bought XM Offshore trousers from mailspeed marine, unfortunately I tore a small hole in the cordura and the breatheable membrane on the bum first time out of the packet. Mailspeed Marine asked me to send them back to them and they would pass them to the manufacturer, which I did. Without any return correspondence they posted them back to me telling me that the damage was not wear and tear and so not covered by any warranty. They also don't do repairs.

I called Mailspeed Marine to got hold of the distributor, Bainbridge Marine. To quote Bainbridge, they only distribute XM clothing and if you want any level of customer service, service back-up or a repairable product then you should go to either Musto or Henri Lloyd.

If you're looking for reliable clothing that won't let you down, don't be taken in by a sub brand like XM using the terms Ocean and offshore, which I took to mean really heavy duty (as per my old musto gear), spend the extra few quid and stick to a brand leader. XM is far from that!

Luck of the draw my ole fruit ,my mustos were useless after two years , sent them back , musto thought they had done their job as over a year !!, I was not impressed asked to speak to manager (keith musto ) , on holiday or away , they offered to return suit while I waited , with an inkling of a plan said no , keep for KM to see , plan came to fruition , KM returned , Musto had lost my suit ! and in the end reluctantly sent replacement , which duly lasted another two years ,

not exactly what I call good service or suits .but 3 years dry cant complain too much .

Bought set of xm offshore for my wife and myself about 4 yrs ago or more , look like new , still breathing and waterproof , says it all !!!

only wee prob one zipper broke last year , but replaced local shop for a fiver .


Ps Ive bought and loved musto clothing in many other departments from the feet up and still do , just dont think their premium priced foulie suits cut the mustard , nor any off the rest (competition that is ) , 2 yrs max you get wet , cheaper last far longer in my 30 years plus experience

My xm breathable stuff has had a lot of hard wear over the past 5 years and is still going strong. Onlh repair i had to do has been to the velcro on the trousers, very happy. :)
 
Well I did buy an xm offshore. This post seven years old and I still have the jacket on the boat as a Spare for visitors. Still waterproof and useable.
 
I have had a set of XM for years & because they were yellow they showed the dirt from the dinghy etc too much
I now use them for winter work duty & mooring maintenance tug boat work in all weather. I am amazed at how good they have been
I bought a set of JAG & they were rubbish. Leaked so bad i was regularly soaked only had for half a season
I won a set of mustos in the "Magic of cruising" competition & whilst they work ( value £500 so they ought to!!)i am not convinced that they are wearing as well as my XM at less than half the price
I have a spare lightweight set of Guy Cotton ( £200) & they seem good as well but only had for a short while. Certainly miles better than the JAG
 
Reviving the thread!

My XM gear has finally reached the end. 15 years of regular use, it no longer holds the water out.

My questions are: are they still the same quality; and have they improved the hood?

I bought an XM offshore jacket in 2015. Its been great and I strongly recommend.

We have done about 5000 miles, OK mostly in warmer climes, however we crossed the North Sea in March, several breezy channel crossings, and Biscay before we headed further south. XM jacket still looks and performs as new.

I can't compare my hood to yours, but no gripes at all.
