It is another 'what boat' thread.

I switch between sail and power. On the power side I've had a Hardy 20 (Suzuki DF 50) and more recently an inboard 20ft launch.

I'm pondering getting another motor boat. It will need to sit on the mud and I'd hope to get something with a self draining cockpit. Outboard for preference and an ability to plane. Not going to sleep on it but want somewhere to hide from the rain and also need chemical toilet and stove.

So...less than £10k, 20ftish, cabin or big cuddy, nice four stroke outboard etc.

Does anyone have any experience of the Landau 20???

A Fletcher 19 Sports Cruiser should fit the bill. Outboard version available, cuddy to shelter from weather, loo, sink and cooker. Probably the best seakeeping hull at that size for UK waters. I regret selling mine and wife hasn't yet forgiven me!!!

I think the Fletcher will fall down on the cabin. The cuddy is not what I would call 'big'. I would suggest looking for something from the Jeanneau Merry Fisher stable, maybe a 580 or 585.

I agree the cuddy is small but the op just wants shelter rather than living space. I think the fletcher hull is significantly better for UK waters than the merry fisher semi planing hull which will slam in a chop. (Solent chop that is...)

Although he did specify shelter, he also said "cabin or big cuddy" which I took to mean a proper cabin, or a big cuddy. The Fletcher is a small cuddy, so while generally a good boat, may not fit his needs. Sailers going to power, tend to stick to certain types of MOBO, and sports cuddies rarely figure, while sportsfishers often do. Just my 2p worth.

Agreed, they are 2 very different boats. Perhaps the op will be along soon soon to clarify!

Thanks so far, on reflect a cabin rather than cuddy. No need for trailing, hate the pass time.

The Merry Fisher is heading in the right direction but looks as if it would be over the £10k mark.

Prefer something that is visually a little more 'traditional' rather than speedy.

How do these things behave in a sea? I'm assuming they are quite light. I'm used to slow and steady...

Jeanneau Merry Fishers are OK. Not the best by any means, but very acceptable. The northern French marinas are full of them, and they like to take them out regularly for a spot of fishing in all weathers.

This one may be available close to your budget, if they are keen to sell: https://www.theyachtmarket.com/boats_for_sale/1807954/?searchid=19651152&page=1

Seem to be more in France for under budget, so may be worth considering. Although Brexit may impact this unless you do it soon:

Here is a link to a search I did on Yachtworld for a boat in the size range 19' - 22', in the UK, fibreglass, and under GBP 10,000 -
https://www.yachtworld.co.uk/core/l...nt=345&cint=295&pbsint=&boatsAddedSelected=-1

I chose various different types of motor boats including 'cuddy' and 'cruiser' and specified petrol only (they do not make a distinction between inboard and outboard).
You could always tweak the search some more by adjusting the constraints.
I would agree with Gord Mac re a Channel Islands 22. None came up in the above search (because I had only specified petrol engines), but if I search for them individually there are two in the UK that are under GBP 10k.
This one has an asking price of GBP 8,450, in Suffolk :

While this one is in Yarmouth, Isle of Wight, with an asking price of GBP 9,995.
