Hey folks,

I've been sailing with cheap-ish Gill coastal waterproofs for a few years, and while they've done me proud I feel it's time to move on to something a little better and offshore-oriented. For jackets I'm considering the HH Skagen or Musto BR. However that's based on what I've seen in magazine reviews and I'm aware there's a whole world of other kit out there that real people have used and can comment on.

Starting with Helly and Musto though - can anybody comment on the relative merits of the two jackets I've mentioned above? And then further - any additional recommendations?

Cheers
W

Whatever
Don't Helly own Musto now?

Whatever you choose, try them on. Special points are
how comfortable is the collar. Does it feel good when battened down? Really makes a difference.
How does the hood feel and fit.
Hand warmer pockets and not just water traps.

Trousers, saloppettes, arrangements for answering the call of nature.

There is nothing wrong will Gull, Decathlon are good value, Musto were good value at their outlet - sadly closed now.

I have a Musto Offshore HPX ? , really top of the range, bought a few years ago in their outlet shop at Bicester ( now closed). I would guess it has been worn maybe 30 times and on the two occasions I've worn it this year it didn't keep me dry. So I too am in the market for a new jacket. The Decathalon Tribord is only £180 vs £650+ for the one I've got. Given the price difference I'm not sure it can possibly be anywhere near as good ( or as bad !). Does anyone know if it's "breathable" ?

Can I have your old HPX jacket?

Contact Musto. If it's leaking, and it's goretex, it will be replaced. If Musto won't, then Goretex will. I have just been down that route with some MPX trousers and got a new pair FOC.

My Decathlon breathable Tribord jacket is 4 yrs old, heavily used and often machine washed (to remove the salt mainly) but has never leaked, including winter use in Norway..all the stitching is like new, zips are fine..what more could you ask, unless you're doing high lats?

What type of wet was it?

Salt water wet or sweat wet?

If its salt water you need to pull the zips up and velcro the cuffs. If it is sweat then how loose is the material?
