Shattered the original acrylic plastic part of the circular mushroom type vent over the heads compartment. Seems like the best idea is to replace like with like. Cowls / dorades would catch the jib sheets I imagine. Solar ones seem to have passed out of fashion judging by the date on the old threads. I'm on a swinging mooring and don't have solar (yet) so fans are out. Need to go back to the boat for measurements but I doubt the part is still made, I couldn't read anything identifiable on it. Anyone had success with this job recently? (I know Trafalgar and the WOA forum). Thanks for any pointers.

Depends what you mean

The Ventilite, which Westerly fitted on many boats is still available and replacement inner parts too

Force4 do a similar " Venticlear"

If you do just mean a screw up plastic mushroom vent

the difficulty is finding one that fits the hole. I was lucky; I found some that fitted exactly but very flimsy things compared to the originals. In fact I have refurbished the originals with the intention of refitting them and chucking out the replacements!

Well thanks both. Vic you are 100% right, I don't mean that kind of mushroom vent. JD has it, however I have dug up on old photo and I can read the brand "Deemar" on it. It does look identical to the pictures and your link JD. I shall purchase one if I can on the basis I can return it if it doesn't fit (seems likely it will).

JD's link is "sold out"

If all else fails look at Trafalgar Yacht Services website ( http://www.westerly-yachts.co.uk/ ). They are listed under "Deck fittings"

Just zoomed in closer and mine says Delmar not Deemar.
Found them on the Trafalgar website. Will take a look at Force 4's offering.
Looks like ECS went into administration earlier this year.......

I've just had a look at the ECS Ventilite on the Hunter 490 cluttering up my driveway. The top hole in the stainless cowl seems to be 90mm across and the "plug" on top the plastic bit is a snug fit at 80mm or so.

Aquafax distribute them (https://www.aquafax.co.uk/product/6-04201-ecs-ventilite-clear-roof-vent-no-cover), so if you can't find an online supplier any decent chandlery should be able to get them.

Don't bother with the solar fan inset. It moves stuff-all air. On the other hand, the sliding shutoff is quite good.

If you want a change of style, a Vetus "Athos" SS mushroom fits the Ventilite hole if you enlarge it very slightly with a flapwheel. Been there, done that.

My experience of these is not good: the little solar panel corroded after a couple of years. May be alright on a motorhome.

Had the one on my boat for 5 years and no sign of deterioration. Keeps air moving through the boat nicely.

Oh, air goes through them all right, but the little plastic fan just slows it down. A PV cell of that size might, if you're lucky, give you half a watt in bright sunlight.

I had one on my boat. Replacing with a mushroom hugely increased airflow.

Ive just recently replaced the ECS ventilites on my VDS. ECS did go in to administration earlier this year and aquafax bought all the stock. If you are after one of these you can ring aquafax and they will give the contact details of a supplier. Sorry cant remember off the top of my head who I bought them from.

I'll let you know. I'm waiting for Force 4 Chichester to get them in stock....... No huge rush with this nice weather and the bottom of a large plastic water container lashed over the top.
Cheers Dave.......

For Rosie/Dave and anyone else with a Westerly Delmar vent
Yes, the ECS Ventilite inner fitted perfectly (from Force 4 as per the links above).
Tiny issue. My original three long screws that hold the "inner baffle" were too fat for the new plastic cover. Rather than go home and ream out I just use the new long screws......they located the plastic but the original outer metal casing with its four screws holds everything in position perfectly. Job done.
