The rope handrail our opacmare pas got damaged over the summer and has now completely split.

It seems to be a three layer rope, with the pleated cotton outer, a middle layer and then a bungee core.
I assume there needs to be the stretch in the rope to allow the pass to deploy correctly and the fold properly into its little trough.

Anyone know what this type of rope is called and if I can purchase it from anywhere or do I need to order a part from Opacmare. It does also have metal end caps and rubber fixers where it passes through the middle supports.

Having just replaced one I would suggest you buy the Opac part. It's guaranteed to fit and crucially has the right amount of stretch to contract properly when folding away.

Hmm - you make a valid point.
I notice aquamare list princess models and the opacmare site just lists part numbers.
I don't have a princess and don't know the part number, so getting one the right length may still be a challenge?

That and the fact they are €300 I do t want to get the wrong one

£300!!! That is an absolute rip off. Thank God mine was replaced under warranty.

Yes, now you see why I was asking.
I asked swmbo what she thought it would cost and her ridiculous price was £50.

I'll take it to a rope purveyor but it would be good to know what the type if rope is (anyone??)
What are the changes of getting the metal end caps? They look pretty standard to me.

You take the end caps off and reuse .
Seen it done .
When I went to collect my current boat @ Apreamare ship yard .Broker noticed ours was a bit frayed , while we were having a few beers ( 4 of us ) sat in the cockpit the pm before departure .
He went off to the stores came back with some , asked for a knife , screwdriver tools etc and fitted a new one , took 10 mins .

I've always thought what I'd to to replace ours.
It seems to me that it is essentially a piece of Double Braid (Braid on Braid) rope with the inner braid/core removed and replaced with some elastic bungy.
Shouldn't be that difficult to make it up and you have the old one as a template.
Just a matter of finding some double braid that feels nice.

We used to make tapered sheets for the Hurricanes in a similar way - but in this case, we removed the outer for part of the sheet and left the two thicknesses for the bit that we hold.

You need to buy the genuine part from an opacmare dealer. The end fittings are swaged on, and the two middle fittings also have machine attachment. Ours failed in the summer and i tried repeatedly to bodge something without any success. The cost was 230 euro inc tax, but ours had lasted 12 years in the med sun, so its not a cost you'll face again any time soon.

It looks similar to the one in your picture, but more black and white. They had dozens of different sizes in stock, all the same colour. I didn't see any blue ones.

Crikey! What a coincidence! I was just about to post the same question because I have the exact same problem.

Can any one recommend an Opacmare dealer? Like Jez I have seen a website with various princess models but not my model (P61).

Just for a bit of closure on this topic, I ended up buying a new purpose made rope from the very helpful Alan Johnson at Aquamarine in Plymouth. £208.00

It has one plain section and two springy sections. My old one didn't have springy sections, I guess they became un-springy over time.
