suzuki 115 vs yamaha 115

I would personally go with which ever is cheapest. 115hp is 115hp

I would agree with Danfarry though, from what I've heard when I was looking to buy my outboard powered boat last year, Yamaha are perceived to be of higher quality than Suzuki. Saying that, I ended up with a Honda 135hp which I'm very pleased with!

Thanks all for your info. appreciate all. Suzuki are giving me 5 year warranty while Yamaha 2 years. Quite a difference. Here in Malta tough Yamaha are very popular. More than the Suzukis. Searching other forums many are saying Suzukis are getting better and better and also are quoting that they are slightly favourites than the Yamahas. Honestly im a bit confused> You understand that buying a new OB is a big sacrifice for me so cant make mistakes:) Anyway lifes a Gamble:cool: Appreciate more info please :)

Check the Suzuki warranty carefully, I have five years but it is 3+2 and I'm not sure what changes in years four and five. They are also strict on it being serviced on the dot by an approved dealer.

As is often the case with Yamaha, they have used a (relatively) small displacement engine to achieve lower weight, matched to a higher gear ratio. In general this means it will have less torque, and will need a smaller diameter prop than the Suzuki so also provide less thrust.

This could be an issue on heavier boats, but less so on a smaller lightweight craft, where the weight saving of the Yamaha may be more relevant. If you plan to pull multiple skiers the Suzuki is likely to have more grunt.

However, unless any of these factors is critical to you, I'd go for the one with the best mix of price, local dealer support, and warranty

I would go for Yamaha but I have 2x250 so a little bias. As Nick_H said, with so many Yamaha's already servicing will be very well covered on the island, that could be your tipping point. Resale could also be an important factor, what would be easy to resell? That said, no serious manufacturer in this space is really producing a bad product.

I too would go for Yamaha but only because I have had a couple in the past, both 225s......and also it seems when I go on holiday all the local work and leisure boat outboards seem to be Yams.....so there might be a workhorse reliability thing as well. As has been said above local Yamaha servicing is important too......just my opinion of course..

Yes, so check the price of those services, they won't be cheap so needs to be factored into the overall equation. Both makes have a good reputation so, although my usual, preference would be Yamaha, I'd go with the cheapest overall, taking servicing into account.

Have you considered an Evinrude Etec 115hp. ( modern direct injection 2 stroke)

We looked at a Yamaha 4 Stroke and the Etec, and went with the Etec 115 especially like the 300hrs until service.

Thanks again to all of you. Spoke to Suzuki dealer yesterday and have an appointment with Yamaha dealer next week. Then will let you know which decision I took.

Had a Suzuki DF140 and loved it. Previously had Mercury, Johnnyrude and Honda over the years but the Suzuki wins.

The E-TEC from Evinrude def. deserves consideration. Clever built-in feature for 'winterizing', among others.

So easy I forgot to mention it. It takes about 2 minutes, all done without leaving the driving seat too.

Having struggled to get good servicing for.......

3years or 300 hrs until fist service, forgot about that as I am still under both.

The E-TEC pull like a train too.

For what it's worth, friend of mine had a Yam 115 on his Fletcher 19 GTS and described it as 'bulletproof'. He was a bit, ahem, lazy with servicing too, so that's all the more impressive.

Models are Suzuki DF 115 vs Yamaha F 155 B. Yamaha are more common here in Malta. Do you think it is worthed to install security locks. Locals are saying that its better to invest in an appropriate insurance than installing locks due to the fact that if thieves target my ob and find locks they will damage the transom also. Views?
