Hi all,

My university design project is an autonomous life saving device for recreational boaters ... its pretty awesome.

I need to work out the speed required for the device so I can buy the motors.

If you could reply with your average speed in KNOTS at sea I would be very grateful.

This forums input has been exceptional thoughout this project, I will be posting my final submission on here for all to see soon :)

Thanks

Joe

Sorry Joe

Speed is not RPM

RPM is engine speed.

My boat speed through the water is about 19 knots

Good luck

Hi joe

Agree with above, happy to help but need a little clarification.
FWIW our average speed would be around 13kts but we never travel at that speed :)
We are doing either 7 or 20....if you see what I mean?
Project sounds like fun, see you on Dragons Den anytime soon?

Average probably about 15kts, but like others have said almost never travel at that speed - usually either 5kts, 22kts or 35kts... We spend quite a bit of time 'pootling' and quite of bit of distance covering at around 22kts as that's a comfortable cruise. When we're out with friends cruising in company however, the petrol fumes tend to affect the grey matter and WOT becomes the preferred 'cruise'...

40' Flybridge cruiser

Fuel price > £1.10 / lt ~8 knots
Fuel price < £0.80 / lt ~16 knots

10 - 13 knots is not a viable speed as She is like the Grand Old Duke of York - when only half way up - neither up nor down

Last mile before the River WOT, so around 22 knots clean bum, to clean the muck of the turbos.

Bible speed 8 knts, need to get there in a hurry 24 knts, tide and down hill 30 knts.
Yes that last statement is true, was having a kip on the way back from Guernsey and the wife said she opened up the taps and 30 knts was achieved
