I need to stick some pseudo mahogany to stainless steel. I have tried Sikaflex, but it came off the metal. Does anyone have any better suggestions?

No great structural strength required, but water resistance: yes please.

Which Sikaflex product did you try? 292 ?

Did you prepare and prime the surfaces as advised in the User Guide and Marine Handbook ?

I asked the same question a while ago and it lead me to learn of the existence of CT1. I used it to bond a plywood panel to the side of my stainless fuel tank, onto which I mounted a new fuel filter system. I did also add straps over the top of the tank. I used the clear CT1 option and put a sample blob on the tank next to the installation. You can see panel, blob and straps in the picture below. It was installed 2 years ago now. Still solid as a rock. All I did was clean the steel with some thinners and a cloth.

CT1 subsequently became my sealant and glue of choice for all manner of tasks previously performed with sikaflex.

+1 for CT1 - came across it this summer when a friend lent me a tube to stick on one side of my tender transom which had suddenly decided to peel off. I was very skeptical - but its still going strong a couple of months later. And it likes water

The trick with gluing any wood to steel / stainless steel is to ensure the steel surface is a rough a possible and chemical clean.

Also you need to use a flexible glue like PU (sikaflex or similar). I have glued lots od stainless steel chafe plates to my epoxy coated steel hull and wood to steel surfaces and the best I have used is sikaflex 11FC.

Cascamite will not hold for very long due to differential expansion. Stright epoxy will also fail due to differential expansion, some modified epoxy may be OK but I have never used. I used No more nails once and the joint failed within 6 months. Redid with 11FC and still OK 4 years later.

Heavy duty contact adhesive like evostick would also work if the joint is close fitting.
