Hi Folks,

I am about to start replacing the fuel lines from our new diesel tank to the 18 hp engine ,and this will include threaded components.Looking at the internet it appears that Virgin White thread sealant , which I believe is PTFE paste, is ok to use with oil, petroleum lines. Can anyone advise if this is indeed ok or if there is a better product

Many thanks

Rob

Probably plenty good enough, as an alternative I like Clessetite, designed for LPG but fine with all hydrocarbons and can be pressure tested straight away. I even use a small drop in the threads (not pipe or olive) of compression fittings as I find the lubrication quality makes for a more controlled tightening of the nut. Used it on all heater diesel fuel supplies for a long time and never had an issue either under vacuum or pressure test.

PTFE tape is deigned for water connections and it won't stop diesel leaks. There is a diesel connection sealant, any lorry factor or perhaps Halfords sell it. It comes in a black squeezy pack.

Used hylomar blue on our fuel line connections after years of problems with small leaks. No further problems 2 years down the line
For info look at hylomar.co.uk web site.

I,v used Ptfe tape to seal threaded joints in water, steam and diesel pipes. Never any problems.
There is some cheap and very thin tape on on the market thats best avoided.
