First of all, sorry for my English. My native language is Russian, also I'm fluent in French and Ukrainian, but there are only several months of english studying. I'm not young enough in my 70s to learn new language quickly and it's not easy for me.

So, once again, sorry.

My question is: how do you think, what is the longest range semi-custom or production yacht under 26 metres (85 ft)? I suppose that it is Naumachos 82' with 7000 nautical miles at 9 knots, but I'm not sure, because about five years ago saw in Avizo (ukrainian newspaper) classified with 22-meters yacht with 7500 nm - there was no brand mentioned, unfortunately.

Thank you.

Shapiro,

Welcome to the forum, and your English is fine, well done.

While I can't help you with this question, there are many on here who can, but only if they see the post, so my reply is only to bump up to the top of the page again, so that someone more qualified than me can see it.

Good luck.

Without having actually compared figures, I'd say Steve Dashew's FPB designs (their own boat Wind Horse being the original) are a strong contender. A low-drag hull based on their sailing boat design experience, hence low fuel consumption, plus massive tanks. Part of their design concept is that you fill up when you happen to be passing a country where fuel is cheap :)

I don't know any production boat that can exceed 7000nm at 9kts. Even a recognised long distance cruiser like the Nordhavn 86 only has a range of 4000nm at 9kts. I must admit I'd never heard of the Naumachos 82 but she looks like a fantastic boat

Excellent first post.

What's the point? Are there any two places in the world with diesel more than 4000 miles apart with no fuel in between?

Surely not a matter of economics behind the fuel purchase, if one has the rubles for a 26 mtr boat then presume one has the rubles for the diesel?

He may own his own refinery:)

Hugely vague reply: but wasn't there a guy in the magazine some months (or maybe even a year or two) ago who was doing a rtw and only needed one fuel stop? I'll get googling...

Cheers

welcome Shapiro

have you heard of Steve and Linda Dashew, and their mobo Wind Horse ?

Some of the design parameters may not be in full accord with yours, but they have a pedigree and track record second to none.

If I had lotsa lotsa money, something like their boat would be on my shopping list. Highly aspirational and impressive.

" Semi custom" says it all ---- in my view ---
that could mean either the builder or a another yard taking instructions from you to fit - long range fuel tanks to a new build or used boat .
How long is a piece of string?
Using a Nordhaven - Starting with a 80 ft - 85 ft ( without googling ) @ 4000 NM " basic " / standard range.
- then X 2 ie double tankage = 8000 NM
Accepting compromises being made elsewhere - lost cabin etc ??

Hi Shapiro, welcome to the forums. There is a wealth of knowledge on the forums here and all will be happy to help.

If you're asking for a cruising speed of 9 knts then it looks like you're wanting the gentle life, while slowly pushing the world underneath you until it produces an island you like the look of.

I would recommend having a look at the Watson range of Traswler Yachts, these things are real animals of the ocean and look fantastic.
72 has a cruising range of 9,765 @ 9knts
79 has a cruising range of 9,580 @ 8.85 knts.

Here is a link to the Watson 72 Page - http://www.realtrawlers.com/watson-72.html

I don't think the websites do the boats justice.

Good luck in your search.

Here is a link to a rather nice fibreglass trawler yacht 'Spirit of Zopilote' built in the USA by Northern Marine - http://www.northernmarine.com/documents/PM-Spirit_of_Zopilote.pdf
She has a claimed range of 5,000 miles at 8.5 knots.

I saw the original Zopilote in Newport, Rhode Island in 1987 after she had cruised around from the west coast. She had been built by Delta Marine, who were well known for building commercial fishing boats, and I think that she was a relative first for them.

Another much smaller boat, but still with impressive range, is the Diesel Duck - http://www.dieselducks.com/
