Does anyone know what the fuel consumption stats are for a merry fisher 725 with the honda v-tec 150hp 4 stroke?

A belated welcome

Hi, sorry no one's answered your enquiry.
Perhaps if you email Jeanneau they may be able to tell you.
I wouldn't think there are very many 725s in the UK so that may be why you've had no response.

Very rough consumption would be about 1.25 to 1.4 l/nm at 4000rpm which should be +/- 20knots depending on conditions.

This is not an exact figure, but based on figures of similar engines on similar boats.

Thanks for that info,
I am likely to go for a MF 645 for my first boat with a 115 hp suzuki as it seems a good all round starter craft.
I just wondered about the 725 ,but realisticaly its not worth the extra pennies for someone in my position.

As a rough guide, the 645 will use about .25 l/nm less fuel than the 725 with the engines suggested at typical 4000 rpm cruise.

Speed should be similar, maybe a tiny bit less on the 645.

That's quite surprising, given that the 725 is considerably larger and running with a much bigger engine. It certainly makes the 725 more attractive to me as fuel costs are a considerable proportion of my running costs (berth is free).

Yeah, surprising how some of the figures work out. My own boat is a MF805 and that doesn't use a huge amount more than the 725 would. We use between 1.5 and 2.0 litres a mile (about 25 litres per hour at cruising RPM, which gives us 14 to 18 knots).

Out of interest, how do you get to your figures? Our Targa 25 averages between 3.0 and 3.25 MPG over the year. I've no idea what the litre per hour or litre per mile figures are for various RPM
Sorry for the thread drift.

Sorry for the thread drift.

I generally run the engine at one speed, 3,200, that's my standard cruising RPM. It's 200/400 RPM short of WOT, depending on conditions we get 3,400 to 3,600 RPM, with 3,600 being max RPM. This gives 14 to 18/19 knots, depending on conditions (23 knots being max speed at WOT, flat calm, tide behind us). We always set off with a full tank and always fill up when we get back. Easy to then check litres per mile. The worst we've had, in moderate conditions, but pushing a good tide, was 2 litres per mile. We normally get a better average, but that was a 90 mile trip, pushing the tide all the way. We commonly use about 1.5 litres per mile on a day out.

Interestingly, I run a Merry Fisher 695 and my fuel figures are almost exactly the same as PG's despite my boat being smaller and running the same engine, but downrated to 175Hp.
