Re: URGENT, does anyone know the 60ft yacht \'Dances with Waves\'?
There is an Ocean Ranger of that name. I was part owner from about 2000 to 2002 when it was called "Ivanhoe". It wasd built in about 1990. Used very very little during the first 10 years untill we bought it.
It went to Wales with the name change (a pun on the new owner's name) for about a year and then to the east coast.
I believe it was sold about 2 years ago and I lost track of it.

I think the owner will have a bit more to worry about than a posting on here.
A friend of mine had his 32 ft Mc Wester Wight "borrowed" by a guy he had trusted to do some work on her in a Spanish Marina. The guy tried to import drugs from Morroco but was captured by Spanish customs. Despite being completely innocent my mate never got his boat back .It was torn apart by customs then left to smash itself up moored against a rough stone wall in an exposed harbour with no fenders.
I dont know if the insurers ever paid out,he had a long and stressfull time with it all.
I guess the lesson is be very carefull who you trust with your boat.
PS Have you had a bad day Joe? /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

That report refers to a yacht called Dances with Wolves.
And it says the following "Initial estimates suggest that the haul exceeds the 1.5 million tonnes of drugs, worth €440 million, recovered last year from Dunlough Bay near Mizen Head in west Cork"
Must be one hell of a yacht to carry in excess of 1.5 million tonnes of drugs!

Forget about the cargo capacities of the yacht. I want to know where one can purchase drugs at 293€ per TON! At that price I don't really care what type of mind enhancing substance it is.

Wonder who grassed him up? He must have been grassed up if they were watching him from the Carribbean. What a result for the Gardai though! Must have been one hell of a piss up after that catch!
Re: URGENT, does anyone know the 60ft yacht \'Dances with Waves\'?
THE YACHT at the centre of the cocaine smuggling case in Co Cork was sold in Trinidad and Tobago during the summer for about $200,000 (€157,000). It was tracked from there after an initial tip-off from the authorities in Britain, it has emerged.
While the 60ft Dances With Waves was intercepted by the Naval Service early on Thursday morning, the whereabouts of men and drugs on board were known to the authorities here for some time.
This level of surveillance and intelligence differs from the operation in the waters off Dunlough Bay, Co Cork, last year where 1.5 tonnes of cocaine was found.
On that occasion the authorities in Ireland, Britain, continental Europe and the US were unaware that the drugs were being smuggled. Then, bad weather tipped the smugglers and cocaine into the waters during a botched landing attempt in west Cork.
The operation resulting in this week's seizure involved the Naval Service, Customs and Garda. The British Serious Organised Crime Agency was also involved along with the Lisbon-based European anti drugs agency known as Maoc-N - Maritime Analysis and Operations Centre, Narcotics.
The US authorities tracked the vessel by satellite as it sailed from the Caribbean past the west coast of Spain and into Irish waters.
Further details of the Naval Service's dramatic boarding of Dances With Waves emerged yesterday. Both the LE Niamh and LE Róisín were specifically launched to intercept the yacht based on the intelligence that originated in Britain.
When the vessels reached the area 150 nautical miles off Mizen Head, the operation became more covert. In pitch darkness and in 10ft high seas, two rigid inflatable boats (Ribs) carrying about 10 armed Naval personnel were launched from the LE Niamh.
They sped towards the target yacht and boarded. None of the Naval force personnel drew their arms on the yacht's three-man crew in what sources said was a "compliant armed boarding".
One sailing expert said the speed with which the Ribs moved into position was a key element in the successful operation.
If the Dances With Waves crew had not been surprised, they could have launched a life raft and sunk their yacht in a matter of minutes.
