JLO ROCKWELL OUTBOARD

Hi,
I'm told it's got a kidney shape petrol tank at back with a square air intake below no gearbox direct drive, made in Hamburg. Number could be 177 not sure very hard to read.

JLO, Jennifer Lopez. Funny, but not really helpful.

I've had a lot of good advice on older outboards <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi>here</A>.

I know your question is old 2004 but I own a Warrenjet 50 which has a JLO 197L engine. Outboard was maufactured for or by Warren & Simmonds Ltd Reading, Bers UK . I don't know what year. Motor says Rockwell Pineburg/Hamburg. Jet Drive is mod 45/OB/1 Type 006 Ser 500B 36575. 50 to 1 mix with good oil seems to work. I am still looking for any info re this motor but it doesn't seem like any is available

Hi Ed,

I've inherited a JLO Type L35L 35 cc outboard and I've just cracked it open. There's no spark but everything else looks fine. Let me know if you came across anything helpful on the web and I'll share what I learn as I go.

Cheers.

Phil

The smaller Seabee outboards also came with JLO engines. Mine came with a 25:1 sticker and similar advice from the owner who bought it secondhand 20 odd years ago. Given the age of the engine I would expect this to be the minimum petrol to oil mix for any longevity.

I've got a Seabee waiting for whenever I get a chance to restore it, I got manuals on CD for the whole range from EBay. Unfortunately it is back home so although I can't be certain, I'll add another vote for 25:1.

The spark plug electrical contact with the head was poor due to a rusty plug gasket. After cleaning it down to bare metal (and sorting out the Amal carb's float needle) the little bugger started first pull and ran like a top.

Out.

I've got one, had in the shed for years, used to run a bit ropey. Had another look at it yesterday, stripped the carb and cleaned, checked the spark and it was very weak so re-sent the points to 0.020in, spark now very good. Just need to fuel it up now for a test. Crazy little outboard. No clutch just pull and go, swivel it through 180° to reverse.
