    Surround Sound - Keel Safety

Well this is a common problem with high energy acoustics, and you'll need to just run some basic tests to establish the resonant frequencies of the hull/deck joint and of course the keel bolts. The hull/deck resonance will be dynamic so you'll need a compensating processor and swell detector...

The weather must be crap in the UK.

[ QUOTE ] I have finally taken the plunge and booked a date to do my RYA Coastal Skipper exam. This, after 15,000NM and 40 years of sailing. Except for the cheaper insurance premiums, should I really bother? [/ QUOTE ] When I did my YM it made bu99er all difference to my insurance premiums, so...

C series software upgrade (compact flash card)

DO use Sandisk and nothing else - it will save you frustration. This is true of a lot of equipment, including many of our survey receivers. Sandisk CF is very compliant and predictable with accurate timing. Cheaper CF is not and although you may get away with it I wouldn't bother The C series...

What should "cruising" boats be designed for?

Re: Lateral / linear galley Never quite got this linear galley issue, and with tcm on this. Any sort of big sea the problem isn't the galley but keeping the food contents under control. Prepared snacks and sarnies are the answer- even making a hot drink is difficult in a blow and an L or U...

    Fisher 46 - First in 15 years!

Well I think both Fisher and HC look purposeful in a trawler sort of way, but I couldn't live with either to be fair. I'm an outdoor sailor and the wheelhouse would make me feel clautraphobic and trapped. Plus the severe lack of sailing performance would drive me nuts But one man's meat is...

How much effort to furl a headsail...........?

If you bear away onto a run so that the main blankets the genoa it becomes a doddle to furl by hand. That's our normal method of furling unless under genoa only

What a horrible thing to happen. It's sad to think that someone would damage your boat without making contact - hope you get it sorted out

    Musical Instruments on board

Very nice, I'd probably go for the nylon strung version as I don't play very often and steel bu99ers my fingers after a few minutes

    Musical Instruments on board

I'd like to have a nice compact acoustic guitar on board for a bit of light strumming, but haven't got around to it yet. They are bulky - Charlie the fisherman brings his along on the SB Cherbourg outing sometimes, but it gets in the way and takes up half the focsle Maybe a small one with a...

    Draining oil sump (Volvo 2003)

Had a great tip from an engineer. Warm the engine to drain the oil, but don't remove the filter. Wait until the following day when it's cooled down and then remove filter Much less mess !
